Who?

Participating colleges and universities are asked to sponsor one or more teams of students (up to five undergraduates) who are active or future members of some organization on campus. Each team should represent a single organization, but that organization can be anything a student can become involved in on your campus. Examples of such organizations include: residence hall communities, Greek chapters, clubs, student government, newspaper staff, service organizations, and many others.

One of the most important components of the conference will be the development of personal and institutional action plans. In order for the students and the institution to receive maximum benefit from this aspect of the program, it is imperative that participants will have ample time, energy, and influence to implement their action plans once they return to campus. Students selected to attend Wakonse should therefore have at least one full year before they graduate and should aspire to have some role in the leadership of the organization in the upcoming year. It is not necessary, however, to limit the team to students who hold positional roles of leadership and responsibility within the organization (for example, president, resident advisor, etc.). The Wakonse Undergraduate Conference will provide both emerging and experienced student leaders with a powerful learning opportunity.

Where?

The Wakonse Conferences are held at the American Youth Foundation’s Miniwanca Educational Center in Shelby, Michigan. The camp is located on the shore of Lake Michigan, which provides a number of fantastic sightseeing and recreational opportunities.

How Much?

The deadline for registration is May 3 , 2010 . The registration fee is $700.00 per participant for a team of one to two students or $600.00 per participant for a team of three or more. Late registrations may be accepted if space allows. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. The registration fee covers the costs of lodging, meals, and conference materials.
